Lessons from main feeding experiments conducted at CATIE using fodder trees as part of N-ration
Shrubs and trees, particularly Erythrina sp. and G. sepium, are described as strategic source of nitrogen for supplementating ruminants fed on pasture and low quality roughages. Comparisons between these species and other traditional nitrogen sources as protein supplements to small ruminants (goats, sheep) and cattle are shown. Also, the influence of levels of foliage intake and energy supplementation with several locally avaible feed sources, on daily gain and milk production are emphasized
