Tuberculin reactions in BCG-vaccinated cattle

A series of tuberculin tests was carried out on a group of 215 indigenous Zebu cattle in Malawi, which were assumed to be tuberculosis-free prior to vaccination with BCG vaccine. The tuberculin tests were carried out at varying time intervals after vaccination in order to determine the time of maximum conversion to tuberculin. Testing was continued for 18 months in order to determine at what time after vaccination there was no further interference with skin reactions to tuberculin. Maximum conversion to mammalian tuberculin occurred in this sample of cattle at five weeks after BCG vaccination. Tuberculin sensitivity had disappeared completely by 18 months after vaccination
