Feasibility of Salmonella control in the poultry raw meat industry

Salmonella spp. are widespread in all food animals, and involve many serotypes. Eradication of these multiple serotype infections from meat birds is not feasible. Reductions are possible, and the impact would be favorable, but the degree of impact on human Salmonellosis is not known. Time proven eradication of specific disease agents, which largely utilize test and slaughter methods are not applicable to multiple Salmonella infections encountered. New technology combined with a re-evaluation of Federal Agency constraints in terms of comparative risk assessment is needed for significant progress and involves both compounds and procedures
