This chapter reviews the importance of goat's production in the main arid areas of the world, its economic importance, social problems, production systems, breeds, physiological mechanisms of adaptation, feeding (effect on vegetation, supplementary feeding), reproductive performance (fertility and prolificity, age at first kidding, seasonality of reproduction, interval between parturitions, oestrus synchronization and artificial insemination), kid mortality and productive performance (milk and meat)
