Oligonychus perseae (Tuttle, Baker and Abbatiello) (Prostigmata: Tetranychidae). Spider mite of avocado Olygonychus perseae (Tuttle, Baker and Abbatiello) is usually found on the underside of the leaves where it causes necrotic spots. Due to the fact that its biological cycle is still unknown and also there is little information on this specie, the present work was undertaken to study some aspects of the biological cycle of this mite under laboratory conditions (T, 25°C, relative humidity, 60 percent). The results were as follows: mean duration time for the egg 6.33 days, for the larva (including quiescenc period) 4 days, for the protonymph 4 days, and for the deutonymph 3.95 days. The oviposition number/day/female was 1 egg, and the period of time during which a female oviposited varied from 6.66 to 10.62 days; in this way each female laid about 10 eggs. The preoviposition period varied from 2 to 5.33 days. For females which did not mate it took 5.5 days (mean) to oviposit, the oviposition period was 6 days and the total number of oviposited eggs was 6; all these eggs gave rise only to males, from which it may be concluded that this species is arrenotocal parthenogic. The biological cycle was completed in a mean duration time of 20.95 days.

The biological cycle was completed in a mean duration time of 20.95 days.
