Climate change and food security

The impact of climate change, though affecting all parts of the world, is more severe in the Afro-Asian developing countries as their economies are closely tied to climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture which is facing multiple stresses due to higher population growth, urbanization, industrialization and globalization. The impacts would manifest in more desertification, sea level rise, reduced freshwater availability, cyclones, coastal erosion, deforestation, loss of forest cover, woodland degradation, coral bleaching, spread of diseases. Climate change is affecting a broad range of sectors but food production stands out to be crucial as it directly affects human survival.
