INFLUENCE OF EGG WEIGHT ON THE SELECTION OF BREEDING QUAILS

To know the appropriate week to select the females that entered the reproductive service, the weight of the quail eggs was evaluated from the first laying until obtaining the reference weight of 12 grams, classroom project, in which it was collected. the eggs daily of a group of 45 sexually mature females of 52 days of age; quail born on the premises of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (FACIAG) of the Technical University of Babahoyo. The statistical differences were obtained by applying Tukey's HSD test (P>0.01), demonstrating highly significant differences of the eggs according to the age of the quails. In the sixth and seventh week the eggs had a greater weight (12.06 g and 12.55 g respectively). It is concluded that birds older than 90 days of age are sexually developed and are appropriate to start the reproduction cycle due to their ability to produce uniform eggs weighing more than 12 g while maintaining the appropriate characteristics when selecting fertile eggs for incubation.
