Toy industry is one of the most important and lucrative in the world, resulting in positive socioeconomic impacts for the countries where the main factories are installed; but it is also one of the industries that generates environmental pollution and risks to human health, mainly due to the use of plastics and other substances. Although multiple efforts have been made to reduce, reuse and recycle, in addition to the fact that some important companies in the business have proposed goals and commitments with the environment protection; The continuous increase in human population around the world, currently estimated at 8 billion inhabitants, requires that more resources be invested in research, innovation and development (R+I+D), to face present and future scenario. This document is a reflection on human health risks and environmental pollution by plastics and other pollutants used in toy industry, as well as possible alternatives to overcome these problems. For this, a systematic review was developed consulting more than 20 sources related to the matter; addressing four topics of interest: Plastic toys and people's health; Environmental pollution derived from the toy industry; Mitigation alternatives and sustainable innovation in the toy industry. In conclusion, the toy industry faces problems related to environmental pollution and people's health; however, there are companies committed to carrying out actions in favor of the planet and good health, especially for children.
