Effect of organic fertilization on dry matter yield in Brachiaria species
The objective of this work was to determine the effect of fertilization with organic manure on forrage production in three species of the gender Brachiaria. The experimental plots were located in Tocumen’s township, province of Panama, located at 09 ° 03’ North Latitude and 79 ° 22’ West Longitude, with an altitude of 14 m.a.s.l. The grasses studied were: Brachiaria decumbens CIAT 606, Brachiaria brizantha CIAT 6780 (Marandú), and Brachiaria hybrid CIAT 36061 (Mulato). Organic compost made with vulture manure (75%), bristles (20%), and plant material (5%) was used, with a maturity of 60 days. Also, a whole control plot (To) was established in the soil of the area, to which no type of fertilizer was applied. The statistical data analysis shows the effects (p<0.05) of the application of organic fertilizer on the production of dry matter in the Brachiarias, observing mean values of 2193-3144 kg/ha/cut for the plants fertilized with the organic compound. The most productive grass was B. hybrid CIAT 36061 (Mulato), with an average of 3144 kg / DM/ha/cut, resulting statistically different (p <0.05) from that observed in B. brizantha CIAT 6780 (Marandú) and B. decumbens CIAT 606.
