Analysis of the efficiency of the LifeStraw Family microbiological water filtering system, in the community of María Chiquita, Portobelo, Colón, Panama

Colon province, Republic of Panama, has many communities or sites that lack safe drinking water service. Therefore, the settler has to use alternative options for purifying water. For this reason, the present study analyzed the efficiency of the Microbiological Water Filter LifeStraw Family in the Maria Chiquita Community, Colon. This research found that the system removed 99.77387% of indicator microorganisms in 5 L, 99.35780% in 150 L, and 99.87453% in 300 L.  A 99.2273% of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 99.6637% of total coliforms, 99.8619% of fecal coliforms, and 99.9220% of heterotrophic bacteria were excluded from the filtration. Its full effectiveness was 99.6687% (99.245293-100.092167).
