Analysis of the efficiency of the LifeStraw Family microbiological water filtering system, in the community of María Chiquita, Portobelo, Colón, Panama

Colon province, Republic of Panama, has many communities or sites that lack safe drinking water service. Therefore, the settler has to use alternative options for purifying water. For this reason, the present study analyzed the efficiency of the Microbiological Water Filter LifeStraw Family in the Maria Chiquita Community, Colon. This research found that the system removed 99.77387% of indicator microorganisms in 5 L, 99.35780% in 150 L, and 99.87453% in 300 L.  A 99.2273% of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 99.6637% of total coliforms, 99.8619% of fecal coliforms, and 99.9220% of heterotrophic bacteria were excluded from the filtration. Its full effectiveness was 99.6687% (99.245293-100.092167).

Debido a esto, los pobladores se ven forzados a utilizar medios alternativos para la purificación del agua. Por esta razón, el presente estudio analizó la eficiencia del sistema de filtrado microbiológico de agua LifeStraw Family en la comunidad de María Chiquita, Colón. Se determinó que el sistema removió el 99,77387% de los microorganismos indicadores en los 5 L, el 99,35780% en los 150 L y el 99,87453% en los 300 L. Se excluyó del filtrado el 99,2273% de Pseudomona aeruginosa, un 99,6637% de coliformes totales, un 99,8619% de coliformes fecales y un 99,9220% de bacterias heterotróficas.
