Incidence of heavy breeding hen age and egg weight on progeny',s productive performance and on ascitic syndrome
Two experiments were carried out with broilers with the object of assessing productive performance and susceptibility to ascitic syndrome (AS) in progeny of heavy breeding hens of diverse age and egg weight. In the first experiment, 1,500 broilers coming from 35, 44 and 53 weeks old hens, in the second experiment 1,500 broilers that came from differing egg weights (75, 66, 58 g), were used. Results referring to hens', age showed significant differences (P0.05) for feed conversion and for general and AS mortality. These test confirm that broilers that come from older breeding hens enjoy a better productive performance and that, most probably eggshell thickness and albumin quality play a role in gaseous interchange, thus contributing to a higher ascitic syndrome susceptibility.
