Control of leptospirosis in swine herds
A method of control for swine Leptospirosis utilizing dihydrostreptomycin at 25 mg/kg of body weight, by the intramuscular route, associated to some prophylactic measures adopted, was applyed in eleven symptomatic or assymptomatic herds, and positive serological for Leptospira interrogans serum type pomona. The efficiency of this control system was approved, not only by the elimination of clinical symptoms, but also by the reached rate of 100% of negativity for leptospirosis, in the studied herds, eleven to forty-six months after the beginning of the experiment.
