Prevalence and intensity of helminth infection in calves at Cantagalo, RJ, Brazil

The prevalence and the average intensity of infection in 35 crossbred calves (zebu x friesian) of both sexes, aging from four to twelve months, from Cantagalo, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil were reported. The helminth parasites, the prevalence and average intensity of infection were as follow: Haemonchus contortus, 71.43% and 956.40; Trichostrongylus axei, 11.43% and 270; Bunostomum phlebotomum, 22.86% and 100; Cooperia punctata, 80.00% and 6,061.64; Cooperia curticei, 40.00% and 2,019.57; Cooperia pectinata; 11,43% and 1,350; Strongyloides papillosus, 31,43% and 230.91; Trichuris discolor, 60.00% and 114.62; Trichuris sp., 2.86% and 13.00; Oesophagostomum radiatum, 31.43% and 167.27; Agriostomum wryburgi, 2.86% and 20; Dictyocaulus viviparus, 20.00%; Moniezia benedeni, 14.28% and 9.80.
