Notes on the Avifauna of the Colombian Southwest

In recent years, the Museum of Natural History of the Universidad del Cauca has increased the study activities and collection of specimens of the avifauna of the southwestern region of Colombia. Field studies and expeditions have been carried out with emphasis on the lesser-known areas of the departments of Cauca, Nariño and Putumayo. In Cauca and Nariño, progress is being made in the study of the avifauna of the Pacific Coast and the Patia Valley, whose first results have already been published in previous editions of this magazine. Studies are being carried out to characterize the avifauna of the sub-Andean forests of the Popayan plain and the Andean vegetable formations of the Colombian Massif. Recently it has ventured into the Caquetá river basin, particularly in the so-called Bota Caucana and surrounding areas of the department of Putumayo. The data presented in this note, are results obtained by direct observations in the field and others are based on information from the collections of specimens of the museum.
