Management of the irretrievable torn of the deep digital flexor tendon in horses by means of an orthopedic hinge

The complete transection of the flexor tendons at the level of the metatarsal head or the pastern produces characteristic changes in the conformation of the affected limb. It is characterized by hyperextension of the falangeana metatarsal or metacarpal joint in comparison with the contralateral limb that is not injured. In addition, the hull clip is elevated from floor. The complete transection of the flexor tendons that was not promptly repaired by appropriate medical and surgical means generates a clinical situation that no longer have the option of treatment through the use of a hinge designed in such a way as to avoid hyperextension of the fetlock joint and thus prevent palmar laceration of the fetlock joint that can lead to deep cutaneous infection and also to chronic osteomyelitis that obliges the humane killing of patients. The design of an orthopedic fitting of aluminum or iron to support the fetlock joint; although it is a rescue resource, allows you to maintain alive and reproductive utility stallions and mares or for humanitarian reasons horses that are appreciated as pets.

La transeccion completa de los tendones flexores a nivel del metatarso o la cuartilla produce alteraciones características en la conformación de la extremidad afectada la cual se caracteriza porque la articulación metacarpo o metatarso falangeana presenta hiperextensión en comparación en la extremidad contralateral que no está lesionada adicionalmente la pinza del casco se eleva del piso. La transección completa de los tendones flexores que no fue reparada oportunamente por medios quirúrgicos y médicos adecuados genera una situación clínica que ya no tiene opción de tratamiento que no sea a través del uso de un herraje diseñado de forma tal que evite la hiperextensión del menudillo y con ello prevenir la laceración palmar del menudillo que puede conducir a la infección cutánea profunda y también Osteomielitis crónica que obliga al sacrificio humanitario de los pacientes. El diseño de un herraje ortopédico de aluminio o de fierro para dar soporte al menudillo aunque es un recurso de salvamento permite mantener con vida y utilidad reproductiva sementales y yeguas o bien por razones humanitarias caballos que son apreciados como mascotas.
