Taxonomía del grupo Atríplex pentandra (Chenopodiaceae)
AS A RESULT OF A MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF MORE THAN 2000 SPECIMENS OF THE ATRIPLEX PETANDRA GROUP (FIDE HALL Y CLEMENTS, 1923) FROM 32 HERBARIA, A TOTAL OF 16 PECIES, AND 1 SUBSPECIES ARE RECOGNIZED SUGGESTING THEIR INCLUSION WITHIN THE OBIONE SECTION. DESCRIPTIONS, HABITAT INFORMATION, DISTRIBUTION MAPS AND A KEY TO THE SPECIES, ARE PRESENTED. CHROMOSOME NUMBERS FOR A. LINIFOLIA AND A. PUEBLENSIS ARE REPORTED FOR THE FIRST TIME, SUPPORTING THE IDEA THAT POLYPLOIDY IS NOT A VERY IMPORTANT PROCESS IN THE EVOLUTION OF THE GROUP. VARIOUS POLLEN GRAIN CHRACTERS WERE STUDIED, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE OF NO TAXONOMICAL IMPORTANCE.
