SINOPSIS DEL SUBGÉNERO AMARANTHUS (AMARANTHUS, AMARANTHACEAE) EN VENEZUELA

RESUMENEl género Amaranthus L. pertenece a la familia Amaranthaceae y posee unas 70 especiesdistribuidas en las zonas tropicales y subtropicales del planeta; en el continente americanoexisten cerca de 40 especies agrupadas en los subgéneros Acnida, Albersia y Amaranthus. Conel objetivo de iniciar el estudio sistemático del género Amaranthus en Venezuela se hace la sinopsisdel subgénero Amaranthus, sobre la base de material de herbarios nacionales, revisiónbibliográfica y colecciones propias. Se confirma la presencia de seis especies del subgénero:A. congestus, A. cruentus, A. dubius, A. hybridus subsp. quitensis, A. retroflexus y A. spinosus;adicionalmente, se reduce de 22 a 10 el número de especies del género. Se presentan claves paradiferenciar los subgéneros y las especies del subgénero Amaranthus, así como descripcionesmorfológicas de las especies, ilustraciones y mapas de distribución en Venezuela.ABSTRACTThe genus Amaranthus L. belongs to Amaranthaceae family. It has around 70 speciesdistributed in tropical and subtropical areas of the world; almost 40 species are reported for theAmerican grouped in subgenera Acnida, Albersia and Amaranthus. As a first step towards thesystematic study of the continent genus Amaranthus in Venezuela, the synopsis of the subgenusAmaranthus was made, based on national herbaria material, bibliographical revision and owncollections. The presence of six species is confirmed in this study: A. congestus, A. dubius, A.hybridus subsp. quitensis, A. retroflexus and A. spinosus. The 22 species of the genus are reducedto 10. Keys to the subgenera and the species of subgenus Amaranthus are included, as wellas morphological descriptions, illustrations and distributional maps in Venezuela.
