Ecóloga de la University of York en el Reino Unido, con doctorado en Geografía de la University of Durham, donde desarrolló una tesis sobre la gestión de la fertilidad del suelo en agricultura periurbana con riego en Nigeria. Trabajó como investigadora en Bangor University de Gales,donde estuvo encargada de la gestión y la coordinación de proyectos y redes de investigación financiados por el Sixth Framework Programme de la Unión Europea y por el Darwin Initiative del Departamento de Medio Ambiente, Alimentación y Asuntos Rurales (DEFRA, por sus siglas en inglés) del Reino Unido. También se ha desempeñado como docente en la University of Durham y de 2009 a 2013 en el Centro de Estudios Interdisciplinarios sobre Desarrollo de la Universidad de los Andes en Bogotá. Ha realizado consultorías con la Fundación RUAF - Centro de Recursos en Agricultura Urbana y Seguridad Alimentaria. Sus intereses como investigadora se han concentrado en agricultura urbana y periurbana, etnobotánica, rescate de plantas y cultivos ancestrales o subutilizados, y sistemas de conocimiento locales de pequeños productores.
