Calculation of the resistance to penetration in Aloe Vera (Barbadenses Miller ) leaves
The research was conducted in order to mechanically characterize Aloe Vera leaves, of the Barbadenses Miller variety, to do this a specialized machine was designed, measurement protocols to estimate dis-placement and force were established and tests for evaluating the penetration strength were performed.; three different areas of the leaves were tested. In the results obtained are evidence that there is no linear relationship between the movement of the indenter into the leaf and the penetration force. On the other hand, it may be concluded that there are no significant differences in the values of the penetration force, when evaluating this at different points to one leaf; differences are exhibited in the values obtained among different leaves, which seems to suggests that there isn’t influence of the dimensional characteristics of the leaves on the value of the penetration force.
