Production of bordetella pertussis suspensions by fermentation

Bordatella pertussis suspensions are used to prepare Whooping Cough Vaccine. This work studied the production by fermentation of Bordatella pertussis suspensions. After several media were tested, the Stainer-Scholte medium supplemented with 3g/L of casaminoacids was used as a fermentation medium. High cell concentrations and good quality suspensions were obtained with this medium. During the process sodium glutamate intake, biomass production and pH were also determined. The culture followed a growth Logistic Model. A comparison between the stationary culture and the fermentation process was done. The last one was a better production alternative.
