Cartagena de Indias es un importante puerto colombiano sobre el mar Caribe, una ciudad tropical con cerca de novecientos mil habitantes y fuerte crecimiento poblacional, urbano, turístico, industrial, comercial y de servicios. Fundada en 1533, fue desde sus primeros tiempos un importante centro administrativo y comercial para la colonización española de América, lo que se evidencia en sus imponentes fortificaciones, murallas y hermosas edificaciones históricas.
