First heart transplant at the General Hospital of Mexico "Dr. Eduardo Liceaga"

Abstract Nowadays, cardiac transplant is considered the most efficient treatment to better the prognosis in patients with last stage cardiac insufficiency that is impossible to obtain through regular medical and/or surgical treatments. We report the case of the first cardiac transplant performed at the General Hospital of Mexico "Dr. Eduardo Liceaga," we describe the patient's and donor's characteristics, pre- and post-surgical management, immunosuppressive therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and patient follow-up. As well as the multidisciplinary approach necessary to achieve a successful result.
