Botany, domestication and physiology of the edible yam (Dioscorea alata) crop.
An extensive literature revision summarizes the most important information about domestication, adaptation, ecology, phenology, growth analysis and physiology of the edible yam crop. The study presented the Yam Sim (Yam Simulator), which is the first version of a model developed from the Simple and Universal Crop Simulator (SUCROS). The Yam Sim model is useful for simulating the growth and harvest of the edible yam (Dioscorea alata). The possible yield limitation is discusseddue to size of the watersource or the drain. The study concludes with the proposal of morpho-physiological traits of an ideotype of edible yam.
