An experiment was carried out to determine the effect of cutting interval and nitrogen fertilization on dry matter yields and chemical composition of Panama-Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum PI 300-086), locally known in Panama as “King Grass”. Dry matter yields were affected by cutting intervals and dose of nitrogen fertilizer (P<.01). These variables did not affect (P>.01) crude protein phosphorous, potassium and magnesium contents. Based on the maximum value of the marginal product, the following optimun fertilization rates at the different cutting intervals were recommended: 100 Kg N/Ha at 45 days, 200 Kg N/Ha at 60 days, and 50 Kg N/Ha at 75 days; however, higher fertilizer doses were still profitable.

EVALUACIÓN DEL PASTO ELEFANTE-PANAMÁ (Pennisetum purpureum PI 300-086) BAJO DIFERENTES INTERVALOS DE CORTE Y DOSIS DE FERTILIZACIÓN NITROGENADA. Pinzón, B. R. González, J.
