A study was conducted to determine the effects of increasing levels of lime (0, 50, 250, 500, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 kg CaCO3/ha) on the chemical composition of soils. Phosphorus and calcium contents and pH of the soils, increased linearly (P<.01) with increasing levels of lime. On the other hand exchangeable aluminum decreased (P<.01). With the addition of 3,000 and 5,000 kg of lime/ha, exchangeable aluminum of the soil was neutralized, exchangeable magnesium and potassium were not affected (P>.01) by lime fertilization.

El pH, fósforo y calcio en el suelo se incrementaron en forma lineal (P<.01) con las aplicaciones progresivas de CaCO3 y el aluminio intercambiable disminuyó (P<.01). Con aplicaciones de 3,000 a 5,000 kg/ha se neutralizó el aluminio intercambiable en el suelo.
