Gazelles firms in Costa Rica: an exploratory study of identification and characterization.
The purpose of this paper was to identify and to characterize high growth firms –gazelles- in Costa Rica. The identification was achieved by the following measures: employment, sales, production and productivity. The characterization was carried out by its size and geographical location. The information emanated from the Central Bank of Costa Rica national accounts for the period 2005-2012. The most outstanding result was to verify by means of empirical evidence that, according to the variable used, the results change. In particular, production and productivity were the most relevant variables in order to characterize this type of firm. Likewise, it was found that the majority of gazelles were large companies and there was no concentration by geographical location. The article closes with public policy recommendations
