Guyanese Cheddi Jagan, Prime Minister of Guyana after one year in office have been outlining his government’s attempts to attract foreign investments and boost manufacturing. Asgar Ali, Finance Minister outlines the areas of foreign investments. Dr. Yesu Persaud, Head of the Private Sector Commission believes that the significantly reduced inflation rate indicates that the government is moving in the right direction – Sandra Baptiste reports (05:04 -08:38). 3. A move in the US Congress to blow up CARICOM agricultural exports to the American market has been condemned by the Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce .Dr. Yesu Persaud spoke out about the bill being a threat to all thirteen CARICOM member states (08:39 -10:13). 4. The group of banana farmers on strike in St. Lucia say that their actions will continue until their demands are met – Ava Wilson, Banana Salvation Group gives statistics on the actual extent of the action. Renwick Rose, Programme Officer Windward Islands Farmers Association empathizes with the workers frustration in light of the instability of the market and the need for a comprehensive lobbying approach (10:14 -12:38). 5. There are fears amongst some countries that a common Caribbean currency will threaten their sovereign status. Avinash Persaud (Barbados born), Head of Currency Strategy JP Morgan and Co.
