Public Service Union (PSU) President Patrick Yard calls on the government to diffuse the volatile situation. Ken Richards reports (00:27 - 03:26) 3. Leaders of the group of eight industrial countries meeting in Germany, have agreed on a new plan to reduce the debt of developing countries. US officials state that new debt relief program will quadruple the debt relief available for the poorest countries. Thirty three countries are eligible and the funding is targeted at poverty alleviation, education, health and implementation of IMF (International Monetary Fund) approved programs. BBC correspondents Paul Reynolds and Andrew Walker report (03:27 - 07:10) 4. A constitutional motion is filed in the High Court in Trinidad and Tobago on behalf of convicted killer Anthony Briggs. The motion argues that carrying out the death sentence would unconstitutionally deprive Briggs of life and contravene his right to equality of treatment. The case will also be heard before the Privy Council. Briggs is convicted of murdering a taxi driver in 1992 (07:11 – 07:40) 5. The Caribbean reacts to the death of the leader of the Catholic Church in Great Britain Cardinal Basil Hume who died of cancer. Ken Richards interviews Archbishop Anthony Pantin of Trinidad and Tobago on the Cardinal’s work and service (07:41 - 09:38 ) 6. Minister of Culture in Saint Lucia Damian Greaves is performing the dual role of government Minister and performing artist calypsonian.
