Headlines with anchor Orin Gordon (00:30) 2. The High Court in Trinidad and Tobago threw out a motion aimed at stopping the execution of three convicted men. Motions filed by lawyers for Joey Ramiah and Ramkalawan Singh contend that at their trials they were not provided with sufficient time to consult with attorneys. Tony Fraser reports (00:31 - 02:07) 3. At a meeting of Attorney Generals in Grenada delegates endorsed setting up a Caribbean Court of Justice with the required provisions. Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj is a strong proponent of the establishment of the Court. Lew Smith reports on the instruments of the court approved at the meeting. This includes protocol, privileges, immunities, code of judicial conduct, draft regulations for a regional judiciary and legal services (02:08 - 06:34) 4. Japan is appealing for developing countries without membership in the Whaling Commission to sign up for membership in the Commission. Ken Richards reports (06:35 - 07:58) 5. European countries are considering how to change the banana regime as ordered by the World Trade Organization. A number of options are presently being explored including increasing quota and tariff levels, limit on ACP preference removed, introducing new tariff rate quotas. In South Africa the ruling African National Congress (ANC) is expected to win the general elections. Jane Stanley reports on Thabo Mbeki election promises.
