El jaguar es el felino más grande del continente Americano, por lo que tiene demandas alimenticias de grandes presas y hábitats extensos, esto propicia conflictos con los humanos debido a la fragmentación de su hábitat. En México se encuentra enlistado como en peligro de extinción en la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. Por lo que es importante determinar si hay parches de hábitat que sean utilizados por el jaguar como corredores dentro de la Sierra Madre Oriental; específicamente, en la región que hay entre la Sierra del Abra-Tanchipa y la Sierra de Cerro Alto. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la existencia de un corredor para jaguar (Panthera onca) entre las Sierras del Abra-Tanchipa y Cerro Alto, del municipio de Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí. El estudio se realizó de noviembre de 2011 a noviembre de 2012; durante este periodo se realizaron varias salidas al campo, en las cuales se pudieron realizar 25 entrevistas semiestructuradas en 10 localidades del área de estudio, se colocaron 15 trampas cámaras con un esfuerzo de muestreo de 515 días cámara y se recorrieron transectos en búsqueda de rastros y huellas. De las personas entrevistadas 14 dijeron haber visto algún rastro del jaguar, por medio de rastros y foto-trampeo se confirmó la presencia de las presas del jaguar en el área de estudio, y se encontraron seis huellas de jaguar. Cinco de las huellas fueron encontradas en selva conservada y nueve de los rastros reportados por los entrevistados estuvieron en selva conservada. Con apoyo del trabajo de campo y de sistemas de información geográfica se determinaron los posibles corredores por los que se mueve el jaguar entre la Sierra del Abra-Tanchipa y la Sierra de Cerro Alto. A pesar de la posible fragmentación que podría haber entre ambas sierras por la presencia de una carretera que la divide y por la fragmentación del hábitat, se encontró que el jaguar se mueve en este agro-paisaje. _______________ IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CORRIDORS AND CONNECTIVITY FOR JAGUAR (Panthera onca) BETWEEN THE SIERRA DEL ABRA-TANCHIPA AND SIERRA CERRO ALTO, SAN LUIS POTOSI. ABSTRACT: The jaguar is the biggest cat in the American continent, requires high habitat and nutritional demands that comes with his large body size; these bring them into conflicts with humans. In Mexico is endangered and is in the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. So it is important to determine if there are patches of habitat that are used by the jaguar as corridors within the Sierra Madre Oriental; specifically, in the region between the Sierra del Abra-Tanchipa and Sierra Cerro Alto. Five tracks were found in forest and nine tracks reported by the interviewed were in the forest. With fieldwork support and geographic information systems potential corridors for jaguar between the Sierra del Abra-Tanchipa and Sierra Cerro Alto were determined. Despite the possible fragmentation could have been between this mountain range by the presence of a road that divides and the habitat fragmentation, we found that the jaguar moves in this agro-landscape.
