“El factor género como causa de la deserción escolar en el área Rural de Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez”

SUMMARY In the present investigation, the purpose of this study was to analyze the gender factor as the cause of school dropout in primary schools in the rural area of Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez. To carry out the research, interviews were conducted with teachers, parents and students of the two schools of Aldea El Progreso, municipality of Mazatenango, department of Suchitepéquez. In addition, field observations were made in these schools, showing that within rural schools there are several factors that affect school drop-out, among which the gender of the students stands out. Among the main findings are the fact that the male-dominated culture predominates in the households and consequently the women's submission to the husbands, which favors a family environment of favoritism towards the male children, who enjoy preminence in everything, In such a way that they are the ones that culminate the primary level of education, not the girls. It was evidenced that the family disintegration, brings with it the neglect of the educational process of the children, at home, which leads to school failure. During the study, we hypothesized that the gender of the students is a condition that leads to school dropout at the primary level of education, where girls are more likely to drop out of primary school than boys.
