The volume seeks to identify significant aspects of the two-way stream of influence - beyond the usual aspects. The chapters describe secondary and higher education systems in China, France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Japan, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, all of Latin America, much of Africa and conclude with the United States. Each chapter examines how the school shapes the university, mainly analysing the flow of students and problems of access to higher education, but also discussing how pressure groups can influence public policy on higher education. Each chapter also examines how the university affects teacher selection and education and the school curricula. A significant issue that emerges is the growth of a third element, those agencies that mediate between schools and universities, particularly public agencies and private associations that administer examinations. The growing complexity of the tasks of education render the school/university relationship more ambiguous and problematic337 p., tablesPapervolumehttps://unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000169140urn:ISBN:0-520-5423-7engCAUniversity of California PressAcademic standardsAccess to educationAdmission requirementsComparative analysisDemocratization of educationEducational demandEducational reformEnrolment trendsExaminationsFormal educationHigher educationIndustry and educationSecondary educationSocial factorsTeacher educationTeacher statusUpper secondary educationThe School and the university: an international perspectivebookhttps://unesdoc.unesco.org/in/rest/api/getNoticeAttachment?noticeId=0000169140 |
