Throughout, the authors are concerned with the world of the young child (equipment, material, etc.), the child's relation with adults, with the role of parents in the context of the school, with play, and with the importance of the first meals eaten outside the family. Three case studies describe the tribulations of young children transferred from one school to another. The conclusion is addressed as much to parents as to the specialists of first school teaching and draws attention to a number of mistakes to avoid, it also offers advice with a view to helping the young child to adapt easily to school life.
