Two workshops were organized by the National Institute for Educational Research of Japan, in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok. This publication describes the situation of vocational and technical education in the Asian and Pacific region, as well as the basic principles for developing training programmes for vocational and technical education teachers. Topics include: trends and issues in the teaching of vocational and technical education, guidelines for vocational and technical teacher preparation, and the conclusions and recommendations. It also contains summaries of individual country reports from sixteen participating countries, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
