General report

The research workshop under review dealt with primary school science and the use of microcomputers as well as their role in a broad and balanced curriculum. It operated on a system with the following components: learner, curriculum, teacher and classroom/management context. The workshop stressed the importance of in-service education and training (INSET) which should be based on the exploitation of valuable in-school opportunities, and a vigorous exchange of ideas and information about strategies to combat the factors that combine to diminish INSET effects. By way of conclusion, the report pays attention to the potential dangers involved in the excessive use of microcomputers in primary education as well as the need for research in this field
