Le Temps de la rupture

The author bases his views on lifelong education on his experiences in the French-speaking part of Switzerland - Lifelong education puts an end to the paradoxical break between school and life and, by adapting education to the special needs of self actualization for adults, reveals the shortcomings in the education of youth and improvements necessary in teacher education. Teachers should be 'motivators' as well as qualified instructors. Lifelong education is best realized through institutional self management and self instructional methods. However, this is still opposed by the public and by educational administrators. This opposition is based on fear of adoption of innovations, of exchanging the status quo for disorder or even chaos, and on lack of confidence in human beings.
