Address by Amadou-Mahtar M'Bow, Director-General of UNESCO, on the occasion of the 44th meeting of the Administrative Board of the International Association of Universities; UNESCO House, 28 February 1986

Speech briefly outlining co-operation between the Organization and the International Association of Universities, which has expanded considerably since the Joint UNESCO-IAU Research Programme in Higher Education was established in 1959, suggests the use of computers as tools of education and research, computer processing and its various applications as an object of research, high-level training in computer science, and the use of computers to improve the management of higher education establishments and increase their efficiency, also refers to the Plan for the Development of Education for International Understanding, Co-operation and Peace, to be launched in 1986, which is both International Year of Peace and the year of the fortieth anniversary of UNESCO
