The nexus of food security, population and environment in North Africa

The nexus of food security, population and environment, with concern for sustainable development, has become one of the main themes of the Economic Commission for Africa, and its sub-regional development centers. At the Fourteenth meeting of the Intergovernmental committee of experts of the North-Africa sub-Regional Development Center, this theme was dealt with in some depth, and the papers prepared for that meeting as well as one for another inter-agency group on water are compiled and presented in this publication. It is hoped that these papers will trigger further research and analysis, and assist policy and decision makers in their choices towards ensuring sustainable development in the sub-region. The publication comes up with a framework of possible policy and strategy orientations that can be of used for governments and non-governmental institutions to foster activities that affect sustainable development.
