Towards eradicating child stunting for inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: opening remarks Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA
Africa’s population is also growing at a faster rate than any other region. Projections show that by 2020, 3 out of 4 Africans will on average be 20 years old; in other words the majority of our youth will be of working age. It is therefore with a matter of urgency that we must call for and commit to the elimination of child undernutrition and child stunting. We have to rewrite our own narrative and in order to do so; we need to secure Africa’s human capital, our greatest economic engine, in order to attain social and economic development.
