Opening remarks by the Chairperson of the APRM national governing council delivered during the opening of the workshop on the harmonization of the National programme of action with the national development strategies: 28-29 October, 2014
The Africa peer review mechanism(APRM) as an African initiative, remains an important stimulus for progressive improvement in the governance of many African countries-particularly those that have acceded and agreed to be peer reviewed. The APRM offers us Africans, an opportunity to firstly acknowledge the progress we are making in promoting governance in our countries, and secondly, to take stock of our challenges and seek appropriate solutions. the tragedy for Africa is not so much that we face a number of development challenges, but our tragedy is that we at times allow outsiders to come and define solutions to our local problems
