Report of the second joint meetings of the AU conference of ministers of economy and finance and ECA conference of African ministers of finance, planning and economic developmet
The second Joint Annual Meetings of the AU Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development was held in Cairo, Egypt. In the opening remarks, the Minister noted that the theme of the Conference was particularly timely and relevant as most African countries were experiencing a drop in available finances from sources like remittances, export and commodity demand, aid and capital flows. The Conference would, therefore, provide an opportunity to examine alternative sources of development finance, including improving macro-economic policies, strengthening tax systems, and improving public expenditure management. The outcomes of the Conference would contribute to the upcoming high level meeting of the General Assembly on the global financial and economic crisis and the next G-20 Summit.
