Report on food security environment and population policies

In this publication, the ECA Subregional Development Centre for Eastern Africa undertook studies on population, environment and agriculture for selected countries. The national case studies presented in this report were discussed at a workshop held in Kigali, Rwanda in December 2000. The purpose of this paper is to review the debate on the nexus between population, food security, and environment and present and case study of Ethiopia. The rest of the paper is organized as follows. A theoretical framework of the study is presented in the second section. The major objective of the country case studies was to provide countries and stakeholders a review of interlinked issues of population, environment and food security in order to facilitate countries to re-orient policies for sustainable development in an integrated manner.
