Ninth Meeting of the Coordinating Committee on African Statistical Development: report

The Coordinating Committee on African Statistical Development (CASD) held its Ninth meeting at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa. The meeting considered the provisional agenda contained III document and the agenda for workshops/presentations contained in document ECAIDISD/CASD.9/99/l/Add.The meeting adopted the following agenda: Report to the CASD by the secretariat; Reports from coordinators on actions/activities of their task forces on connectivity for statistics, monitoring the implementation of the Addis Ababa Plan of Action, strengthening of the Statistical Training Programme for Africa (STPA) Centres, databases and databanks, gender in the national accounts.(After presentation of each report, the Committee will discuss achievements, impact, and future work of the task force); Selected issues on statistical development in Africa improving the quality of African statistics, partnership for statistical development; Any other business; Date and venue of the next meeting; Adoption of the conclusions and recommendations of the meeting.The meeting also adopted the provisional timetable for the meeting contained in document ECAIDISD/CASD.9/99/inf2. The Committee: emphasized the importance of the Minimum Regional Statistical Programme as an instrument for better coordination of statistical activities.
