Background Note to the African Gender and Development Index (AGDI) External: review meeting

The African Gender and Development Index (AGDI) has been designed by the African Center for Gender and Social Development (ACGS) of the ECA as a tool for measuring gender inequalities in the social, cultural economic and political fields in Africa. The index compliments other indices such as the Human Development Index (HDI) and Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM) developed by the UNDP, which are also aimed at monitoring a range of gender-related development indicators.
