The Expert Group Meeting on Adolescent Girls and their Rights: Statement by Mr. K.Y. Amoako, UN under secretary general and executive secretary of ECA

This Statement delivered by Mr. K.Y. Amoako, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the Expert Group Meeting on Adolescent Girls and their Rights. Mr. Amoako, on his remarks highlighted that, We at ECA are fully committed to gender equality, with all it implies and entails. In the newly-restructured ECA, defined by strategic focus, our aim is to become a policy integrator, a networker and a disseminator of development ideas and best practices among the ECA Member States. The five thematic areas of ECA's work -- social and economic policy analysis, food security and sustainable development, development management, development information, and regional cooperation -- all have gender as a cross-cutting theme. We are currently in the process of defining the necessary tools to achieve this objective. Today's children are tomorrow's leaders. Today's adolescent girls are tomorrow's entrepreneurs, mothers, caregivers, parliamentarians, doctors, lawyers and heads of state. But today, they are vulnerable, and reliant on us, the adults of today.
