The assessment of the status of agricultural machinery in the UDEAC countries in the context of the second industrial development decade for Africa (second IDDA)

The programme for the Second Industrial Development Decade for Africa (Second IDDA) has made a serious attempt of addressing the rationalization of the manufacturing of agricultural tools and implements by assigning specific manufacturing responsibilities to specific countries in the various subregions. This study is to assess the status of agricultural machinery in the UDEAC countries in the context of the Second IDDA with a view to addressing the rationalization of the manufacture of the equipment. Some studies have been carried out concerning the state of agricultural machinery in the Central African subregion. Discussing the structure of agricultural mechanization, the study points out that existing factories vary in size and are TROPIC in Cameroon, CHANIMETAL and UMAZ in Zaire, RWANDEX Shillington in Rwanda and SIMAT in Chad.
