Digital photogrammetry and automated mapping
New automated techniques appear to be able to render considerable service in revising obsolete maps or in preparing new ones. One of the advantages is that the recording of digital data from aerial photographs can be carried out with no appreciable increase in plotting time and thus promises interesting developments in the future. The advantages and disadvantages of direct recording of digital data from the photogrammetric plotter are well known: accuracy, rapidity (since the recording takes place at the same time as the graphical plotting), preservation of a major portion of the wealth of information provided by the aerial photograph.
