Report on the activities of task force 1: connectivity for statistics

The task force on connectivity for statistics was established as part of the reform of the Coordinating Committee on African Statistical Development (CASD) recommended by the sixth meeting of the Committee. The purpose of the reform is to entrust the bulk of CASD activities to smaller more operational task forces that produce more tangible results. The task force’s objectives are fully in line with both the Addis Ababa plan of Action for Statistical Development in Africa in the 1990s, and the African Information Society Initiative (AISI). The objective of task force 1 activities is to promote the use of new information technologies, including electronic mail and/or the Internet, in order to provide easier access to sources of information and promote regular exchanges of data among Committee members and between such members and African national statistics services and various partners.
