Potential contribution of new and renewable sources of energy to the African energy supply

This paper is not intended to be a complete discussion of these technology options, since there are many excellent references on this subject. However, the paper must include a summary review of the basic technologies, their current status and momentum, and the important lessons Africa learnt in the process of their application. This chapter presents such an overview of the technology options and their development status, and establishes a baseline for subsequent discussion.
